Hackney’s East Road development secures planning permission
Waterman is delighted to see that the East Road mixed-use redevelopment in London’s Hackney has secured planning permission.
Summix Capital Limited’s scheme features the redevelopment of an existing office block to provide a 210-room hotel, along with approximately 5,000 m2 of commercial premises. Situated in close proximity of Old Street Station, the 23-storey building is adjacent to both London Underground and National Rail infrastructure.
To support the planning application, Waterman’s team undertook EIA screening to help ensure the local planning authority were aware of the likely significant effects arising from the development, whilst negating the need to undertake a full EIA. Our specialists produced an ‘EIA Request for Screening Opinion’, which was submitted to the local authority. To accompany the successful application, we also delivered an Air Quality Assessment and an Archaeological Desk Based Assessment.
Praising our team’s work on the project, Barry Rankin of Summix Capital Limited said: “Waterman provided strategic input on our Environmental Impact Assessment strategy and were knowledgeable and proactive in their advice on scheme proposals that sat on the borderline of EIA requirement. Their EIA reporting we found to be clear and concise and when required they consulted with relevant bodies on our behalf in a polite and efficient manner. We enjoyed working with Tom Wells and his knowledgeable EIA team and they provided a key role in the successful conclusion of our planning application with the London Borough of Hackney.”
