Harrogate Civic Centre finalist in LABC Building Excellence Awards
Waterman are delighted that the new civic centre and headquarters for Harrogate City Council is a finalist for Best Public Service Building within the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards for North & East Yorkshire.
As the largest business to business awards within building control, the LABC recognise quality in all types of building projects in 12 regions throughout England and Wales.
Harrogate’s new City Council Headquarters, designed by Farrell & Clark Architects, includes consolidated offices as well as a new Council Chamber and Customer Services department. Measuring between two and four-storeys in height, the developments structure consists of curved floor plates and utilises a steel frame solution with exposed precast floor units for the building services design.
Waterman were appointed to provide structural engineering services for this unique project. Our team overcame engineering challenges including a steeply sloping site, partially occupied by existing properties which was closely surrounded by mature woodland containing a number of protected trees.
The North & East Yorkshire awards ceremony will take place at The Principal York Hotel on 19 June.
