Miriam Spatafora wins IStructE Photo Competition
Miriam Spatafora, a Structural Engineer in our London office, was delighted to see her photo of the vaulted ceiling in London Bridge Station selected as the winner in the ‘Structure and Light’ category of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) London Young Members Group (LYMG) Photo Competition.
As the first of the annual photo competition’s to be launched by LYMG, submissions were accepted for three categories; Exterior, Interior and Structure and Light. Each photographer was allowed to submit up to five photos overall, with no more than two per category, showcasing a relatively new feat of structural engineering.
The winners received their prizes and certificates at the Graduate Welcome Event on 23 October and the winning photos will be published in The Structural Engineer, the flagship publication of IStructE.
Miriam commented; “It is humbling to have my photo selected as a winner in this competition. I wanted to capture the way the light enhances the vibrant texture of the Station’s vaulted ceiling and highlight the tactile feel that the image induces. Sometimes we are in such a hurry and look without seeing, so it is lovely to see the beauty around us and take a mental note (or photo) when we have the chance.”
