Win for Royal College of Pathologists and Quadrant Arcade at New London Architecture Awards
Waterman are delighted that the Royal College of Pathologists and Quadrant Arcade were announced as winners of the Education and Retail categories within the New London Architecture (NLA) Awards on 3 July at the Guildhall.
The Awards recognise the capital’s best architecture, planning and developments, including both new and proposed schemes across all sectors of the built environment.
The Royal College of Pathologists new headquarters in Aldgate, Central London, is an eight-storey building featuring a double-height entrance atrium and floor to ceiling windows on all floors to maximise natural light. The Bennetts Associates architectural design comprises a suite of state-of-the-art facilities for the College’s members and trainees, including multi-purpose 210-person conference theatre and meeting rooms, office space and examination rooms from which to expand the College’s programme of academic activities. The Quadrant Arcade continues the prestigious restoration of Regent Street, breathing new life into this vibrant retail destination in the West End. Waterman Structures were appointed by The Crown Estate to provide structural engineering services to this Grade II listed building, known as Q2. Originally built in the early part of the 20th Century, works have included the part reconstruction and refurbishment of the existing building. The arcade has been transformed and opened up to Regent Street by the removal of one of the main columns to the façade, delivering a more inviting entrance to this hidden historic gem. Commendations were also awarded to the Belham Primary School for Education, One Fen Court for Workplaces and London Wall Place for Public Spaces.
Congratulations to all the teams involved within these award-winning developments!
