Environmental workshops at King’s College

Waterman’s Environmental Consultant, Hamid Atta, hosted two workshops at King’s College London’s (KCL) Department of Geography – School of Global Affairs in mid-October, explaining his role within Infrastructure & Environment (IE), the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) process and his experience with environmental disciplines such as air quality, ecology and flood risk.

Having completed his degree in Geography and Environmental Science at Keele University, Hamid went on to study his masters in Environmental Monitoring Modelling and Management at KCL. It was here he joined their Environmental Internship Module which introduced him to Waterman IE as part of their yearly intern programme, assisting with noise, air quality and ecology surveys. In September 2017, Hamid started working full-time as a Graduate before being promoted to a Consultant in June 2019.

Following our ongoing relationship with KCL since 2014, Hamid was delighted to be invited back to the university to host two workshops for over 50 students and professors, discussing his work within environmental projects as well as explaining the interview process for a potential intern position. The students were then split into teams and provided with working examples from some of our projects: 233 -236 Nestles Avenue, St Albans Road, Winstanley and York Road Estates Regeneration, Canada Water, Stag Brewery, Liverpool Cruise Terminal, Newmarket Road and Fordham. With Hamid’s assistance, they reviewed baseline information in relation to their chosen sites and presented a list of the potential environmental issues to the group.

When speaking about the positive feedback he’d received, Hamid said; “The students really enjoyed working with real world examples, going through each project’s site boundaries and assessing their constraints with an enthusiasm that was really nice to see. I look forward to working with the Internship Coordinators and King’s College London again in the future.”
