Walking the walk with Ric Piper

Ric Piper, our Non-Executive Director, took on one of the most impressive challenges on 19th September, a 34 day walk known as the Camino which is one of the most popular pilgrimages in the world.

IMG_5749The Camino, stretches across 530 miles from St Jean-Pied-du Port in the French Pyrenees to Finisterre on the Atlantic Coast of Spain.

Whilst he mainly took this pilgrimage in memory of his daughter Laura, who sadly passed away from pneumonia in March 2016, Ric has now ticked the Camino off his bucket list and raised money for four great charities along the way; The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, The House of St Barnabas, Beat and The Rainbow Trust.

Given the Camino required 34 walking days across six weeks, Ric has certainly walked the walk after gradually building up his stamina over the past eight months by walking c.600 miles around the Kent and Surry hills.

Far from being alone, Ric has gladly welcomed many willing companions throughout his training walks and extended this invite onto the Camino. Close friends and family (and even some complete strangers) walked some of the leg, we were delighted to see Graham Hiscocks, our previous Company Secretary, accompany Ric for a few days towards the end of his journey.
