Waterman announces new leadership roles to support future growth

Jonathan Purcell appointed new Managing Director of Strategy and Growth as Mark Terndrup takes on expanded role as Managing Director of Building Services

Waterman Group is pleased to announce two senior leadership appointments within its UK Consulting business, strengthening its national capability and reinforcing its focus on delivering integrated, client-focused solutions across its core growth markets. The appointments support Waterman’s strategic ambition to bring its multidisciplinary expertise together to create greater value for clients and position the business for its next phase of growth.

Jonathan Purcell, formerly Managing Director of Building Services – North, has been appointed Managing Director of Strategy and Growth, a new role created to help shape and deliver Waterman’s UK growth agenda. In parallel, Mark Terndrup will expand his role as Managing Director – South for Building Services to cover the whole of the UK.

Together, these changes provide a stronger platform for national collaboration, aligning expertise across disciplines to keep clients at the centre of Waterman’s UK Consulting strategy.

In his new role, Jonathan will work alongside Mark Emberton, UK Chief Operating Officer, and the consulting Managing Directors to deliver the business’s strategic growth priorities, strengthening client relationships and identify high-value opportunities across Waterman’s core markets.

We are delighted to celebrate the success of Aamar Lovell, an apprentice engineer in our Manchester Infrastructure & Environment team, who has won the ICE North West Princess Royal Award for Emerging Engineers at the regional final.

The award recognises outstanding early-career engineers who demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and a commitment to the profession. Aamar was named this year’s winner following a standout presentation titled “Engineering the 22nd Century Bridge: Materials, Digitalisation and Predictive Intelligence,” showcasing his forward-thinking approach to the future of civil engineering.

 

Waterman appointed on Hampshire’s Gen5 Consult framework

Waterman has secured three lots on Hampshire County Council’s Gen5 Consult – Transport, Highways & Infrastructure Consultancy Framework. Running from 2026 to 2030, the framework is designed to provide the Council with multidisciplinary and specialist professional services across transportation, civil engineering, infrastructure and economic growth.

The framework can also be accessed by all southern authorities through Hampshire County Council on a Participating Authority agreement basis, helping to extend the reach of specialist consultancy support across the wider public sector.

The three lots awarded to Waterman cover:

• B1 Engineering Design Specialisms
• B4 Environmental, Sustainability & Decarbonisation
• B7 Traffic Management, Traffic Order & Parking Consultancy

Hampshire County Council’s assistant director highways, engineering and transport, Tim Lawton, said in a recent statement:

The Gen5 Consult Framework is about helping public bodies deliver infrastructure more efficiently – by giving them faster access to the expertise they need to plan, design and deliver projects that support economic growth, connectivity and local communities.”

Waterman partners with AtkinsRealis and Stantec to support Environment Agency in boosting flood resilience across the UK

Waterman has been appointed to the Environment Agency’s Flood Risk and Asset Management (FRAM) Framework as part of a strategic partnership with AtkinsRéalis and Stantec, under the Government Commercial Agency’s Construction Professional Services 2 (CPS2) Framework.

The appointment will support delivery of the Environment Agency’s national flood and coastal erosion risk management programme, contributing to long-term investment in flood resilience and climate adaptation across England.

Supporting all FRAM service areas

The partnership has been appointed across all three sub-lots to provide integrated capability across the full project lifecycle:

• Lot 9a – Technical Services: engineering, design and technical advisory
• Lot 9b – Environmental Services: environmental assessment, sustainability and nature-based solutions
• Lot 9c – Commercial and Programme Management Services: programme delivery, commercial management and project controls

Together, these Lots will ensure the Environment Agency has the technical expertise, environmental insight, and programme leadership required to deliver complex flood and coastal schemes efficiently and effectively.

Delivering capability through secondment and specialist services

Within this partnership, Waterman will play a key role by providing specialist secondment and consultancy services, embedding experienced professionals directly within Environment Agency teams and partner organisations.

This flexible model enables the Environment Agency to rapidly scale resource, maintain continuity, and access specialist skills at critical stages – from early scoping and feasibility through to programme delivery and management.

The work delivered through this framework will help reduce flood risk, protect critical infrastructure, and enhance environmental resilience for communities and businesses across England.

A collaborative approach to national challenges

The partnership brings together complementary strengths across engineering, environmental consultancy, and programme delivery, creating an integrated, national supply chain capable of delivering large-scale, multi-site infrastructure programmes.
