Ian graduated from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1992.
Ian is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland and a Professional Engineer with Engineering Council of South Africa, with over 25 years’ experience in civil design and project management responsibilities on a wide range of projects.
He commenced his career at Chew Bowen & Marais Consulting Engineers, for whom he worked until 1997, when he took up the position of Deputy Director with the Amatole District Municipality. In 2001 he relocated to Ireland and joined John Moylan & Associates as a Senior Engineer. He subsequently took up a position with consultant PH McCarthy (2004 -2009) where he was responsible for the infrastructure planning and design for the early phases of Adamstown SDZ, becoming a Regional Director before the recession in 2009 forced his return to South Africa. He re-joined CBM Africa Consulting Engineers, where he became Managing Director in the later years and was responsible for major infrastructure projects with the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
In 2017, Ian re-joined Waterman Moylan in Dublin, where he manages one of the firms development engineering teams. He has assumed a lead role in the planning, design and construction of Civil Infrastructure work for the recommenced development of Adamstown SDZ.
Ian’s expertise includes drainage, water supply, transportation systems and road master planning, concept design, planning and design for major public infrastructure projects and for large residential, mixed use and other building developments.
