Waterman Moylan takes part in Engineer’s Week
The annual Engineer’s Week hosted 600 events throughout Ireland as part of the Engineers Ireland campaign to promote engineering as a career choice and to increase awareness of the importance of the profession to society generally.
As part of this year’s campaign, our team visited three primary schools in Dublin, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál (Inchicore), Drimnagh Castle Primary School and the Assumption Girls National School (Walkinstown). Our visits consisted of talks, group discussions and workshops on the Engineering disciplines, design challenges and activities, and we discussed how Engineering contributes to our society. As part of the presentations each of our Engineers shared their own stories of what had inspired them to take up a career in Engineering.
Each class then took part in the “Egg Drop Challenge” to see who could create an efficient device to protect their eggs from a high fall. There were many successful ideas showing creative thinking to solve the problem at hand and some truly unique designs that our Engineers had not seen before.
Each class contributed very positively to the sessions and we hope that we were able to inspire a number of the students to get involved in Engineering in the future.
