Waterman to showcase revolutionary AI bridge inspection tech at Concrete Bridge Conference

Waterman’s bridge specialists, Jagvinder Singh and Tim Grimshaw, will join other leading concrete bridge experts at the Concrete Bridge Development Group’s (CBDG’s) 25th Annual Conference on 29 June.

Taking place at Birmingham’s National Conference Centre, the event will explore the latest sustainable technologies and techniques for the design, construction, inspection and management of concrete bridges, and will outline how bridge engineering is responding to the challenge of net zero.

Speaking during the 11:40am session, our Technical Director and national service line lead for bridges, Jagvinder Singh, and Senior Engineer, Tim Grimshaw, will shed light on Waterman’s UK trials of an innovative new inspection technology for existing concrete structures. Developed with Japanese engineering specialists, CTI Engineering Co. Ltd., the new method is set to revolutionise bridge inspections.

Jagvinder and Tim will outline how our team supported the development of this cutting-edge system. Together, they will introduce the AI crack detection technology which utilises drone inspection, 3D modelling technology and laser sound inspection technology to automatically extract defects from photographs taken with a digital SLR camera and plots these on a crack damage map. They’ll also explain how this ground-breaking technology will improve the efficiency of inspection work whilst contributing to quality assurance by preventing damage from being overlooked. Attendees will also be able to ask questions about the new technology during the Q&A session which will follow the presentation.
