Waterman win SSD Award for AirW1

Last week, Waterman’s David Fung collected a BCSA Structural Steelwork Design Award at a ceremony held in Madame Tussauds in London.

For the AirW1 redevelopment over 1000t of existing steelwork, including massive plate girders, was carefully assessed and then refurbished, adapted or enhanced behind the Edwardian façade.

The Judges cited: ‘‘This is an exemplar for imaginative incorporation of existing steelwork in a striking modern office/retail/residential development.’’

David Shaw, Head of Regent Street Portfolio at The Crown Estate also commented: “Waterman have been a key member of the Regent Street Quadrant 3 team from the beginning. The BCSA Structural Steelwork award is very well deserved as the structural solution to the project and it’s execution was a crucial part of our success.”

The AirW1 project has received several awards since its completion in 2012 and these include; British Construction Industry Award for Best Practice, New London Awards – Office Category and Building Magazine’s Project of the Year 2012.
