Waterman has provided civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services to LCA on a number of projects including:

Ledger Building
Waterman provided structural and civil engineering services for the redevelopment at the western end of the airport. The project consisted of the the partial demolition of the Ledger Building, extension of the fire station and provision of temporary accommodation. The airside area was also extended including an extension of the 9m high sound screen, the airside road and an enlarged aircraft stand.

Careful phasing and the provision of temporary airside fencing allowed the majority of the build to be undertaken landside, thereby minimising disruption to the airport and construction time.  Waterman also provided space planning, site layout, construction phasing, planning drawings and external lighting design.

West Pier and International Arrivals
Waterman was appointed by London City Airport in 2012 as structural, civil and M&E engineers for the £15m improvement works to the west pier and international arrivals hall. The project marks the Airport’s 25th anniversary and involves the construction of a new first floor structure over the existing gate lounges for the full length of the 300m pier. Once the structure is completed and incorporated with the existing first floor corridor it will provide ten new open plan first floor gate lounges. The existing ground floor gate lounges will be incorporated into office and rest arears for the ground services crews. The project was put on hold in 2013. In late 2014 the project restarted. Waterman are currently producing construction information and the project is due to start on site at the end of May.

Car Hire Building
Waterman designed the new car hire facility adjacent to the terminal building as part of a design and build contract. Waterman worked closely with the steel fabricator, the cladding contractor and the curtain walling contractor in order to co-ordinate all the design functions and avoid last minute problem solving on site.
