Designing Europe’s tallest pre-cast building
Richard Papworth, Waterman’s Structures Director, will be speaking at the ‘DEVELOP, DESIGN, DEPLOY – REPEAT’ event on Thursday 17 May at 6pm.
Hosted by the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) at their HQ in London, Richard will be joined by Laing O’Rourke’s Raj Kotecha and Dr Jean Paul Vella to discuss the iconic Two Fifty One tower, which topped out in May 2017.
Located on London’s Southbank, the 0.51-acre mixed-use development topped out at 132 metres, making it the tallest pre-cast building in Europe. Designed by Waterman, the tower harnesses Laing O’Rourke’s unique DfMA capabilities in off-site construction which has led the way for the project’s significant benefits in buildability, health and safety and its construction programme.
The free event will cover the design and construction of Two Fifty One, in particular the successful delivery and development of the E6 floor system, as well as research into the performance of headed bar connections carried out at Imperial College London.
