Five projects shortlisted for RICS Awards

Waterman are delighted that five of our projects, Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, Westgate Oxford, The Minster Building, Floral Court and The Bower, have been shortlisted for the upcoming London, East Midlands and South East RICS Awards.

Across eight individual categories, the leading property and constructions awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.

Confetti CQ Campus – ‘Regeneration’ within the East Midlands Awards
The Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies’ new Digital Media Hub is located in the centre of Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) ‘Creative Quarter’. The innovative seven-storey new build is one of the most forward-thinking higher education institutions in the UK and includes contemporary classrooms, a spacious Learning Resource Centre with private study facilities, computer laboratory and cafe. As the Confetti Institute’s main site, the Hub provides more media, film and theatre courses for students at both college and degree level.

Waterman were appointed to provide mechanical and electrical engineering services for this exceptional build, meeting NTU’s key requirements for a low energy build and achieving a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Westgate Oxford – ‘Commercial’ within the South East Awards
Westgate’s new £440m shopping destination has played a key role in the regeneration of Oxford’s city centre, accommodating 800,000 ft2 of retail and leisure outlets. Anchored by a three-storey John Lewis department store, the Centre boasts over 100 new shops, restaurants, cafés and leisure uses including a boutique five-screen Curzon Cinema. This high-quality building has already become internationally recognised for many awards.

Waterman were appointed to provide structural, civil, environmental and flood risk services throughout this prestigious scheme.

Floral Court – ‘Residential’ within the London Awards
Sitting at the heart of one of London’s most attractive districts, Floral Court (formerly known as Kings Court) is a new 85,000 ft2 development in Covent Garden featuring prime residential and retail space over five storeys with a two-storey basement. Comprising 45 luxury apartments, two restaurants and eight retail units, the scheme saw the creation of a new pedestrian route that transformed the pre-existing private courtyard into a shared public space. Waterman were appointed as the main structural engineers on this impressive development.

The Minster Building – ‘Commercial’ within the London Awards
The Minster Building is an iconic 275,000 ft2 office building located in the heart of London’s Insurance district. The major refurbishment, designed by Buckley Gray Yeoman (BGY), saw the original 1990’s building transformed into Grade A offices, with 65,000 ft2 of café, restaurant, bar and shop space as well as 250 bicycle spaces, lockers and 25 showers.

Waterman’s structures team were appointed to work closely with BGY to transform the building, developing a solution that removed part of the upper ground floor to form a large double-height reception with café and breakout facilities. Our building services team designed the new energy efficient M&E strategy, providing the flexibility to accommodate a variety of tenants and workplace functions.

The Bower – ‘Commercial’ within the London Awards
The Bower is a new 48,300 m2 landmark development next to London’s Old Street Roundabout. As designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) Architects, the exceptional new scheme offers vibrant retail and restaurant amenities with three high-quality office buildings, The Tower, The Warehouse and The Studio, framing the new mews. A new public realm has also been created on the ground floor, punching a hole through The Tower to create a pedestrian walkthrough from Old Street to Baldwin Street.

Waterman were appointed to provide structural engineering design for this prestigious scheme.

The London Awards ceremony is due to take place on 2 May, followed by the East Midlands on 15 May and the South East Awards on 16 May.
