Harrogate Civic Centre crowned ‘Best Public Service Building’ and ‘Supreme Winner’ at LABC Building Excellence Awards
Waterman are delighted that the new civic centre and headquarters for Harrogate City Council has been awarded ‘Best Public Service Building’ and ‘Supreme Winner’ within the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards for North & East Yorkshire.
As the largest business to business awards within building control, the awards recognise quality in all types of building projects in 12 regions throughout England and Wales.
Harrogate’s new City Council Headquarters, designed by Farrell & Clark Architects, includes consolidated offices as well as a new Council Chamber and Customer Services department. The building is configured over two and four-storeys with the structure consisting of curved floor plates, utilising a steel frame solution and exposed precast floor units which provide cooling capacity to benefit the building services design.
Waterman were appointed to provide structural engineering services, overcoming engineering challenges including a steeply sloping site, partially occupied by existing properties which was closely surrounded by mature woodland containing a number of protected trees.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this unique project!
Judging will be taking place towards the end of July to discover which of all the regional winning schemes will continue to represent Yorkshire at the National Awards, held in London on 8 November.
