The Buttercross wins ‘The WhatHouse? Best Regeneration Award’

We are delighted to announce that Bower Mapson’s development The Buttercross, Witney, has won the ‘Best Regeneration’ at The WhatHouse? Awards 2016.

The Award recognises projects which demonstrate a commitment to the inner city and urban renewal, or rural regeneration, including new build on derelict land and refurbishment of existing housing stock.

The completed development comprises an extra care apartment block and 106 two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments built using a range of materials sensitive to the Cotswolds style.

Waterman were appointed by Bower Mapson to provide key contaminated land and geotechnical advice from very early in the project through to completion of remediation and earthworks.

In brief this included:

• Demolition activities were planned so as to eliminate waste and maximise the beneficial re-use of recycled aggregates.

• Aggregates for the sustainable drainage system were sourced from entirely site won, recycled demolition materials without the need to procure and import quarried aggregates.

• Soil and groundwater remediation was achieved by on-site treatment without the need for disposal to landfill and associated vehicle movements.

• Designers warranted the use of recycled aggregates and the local authority adopted the sustainable drainage system.

The winners were announced at the awards ceremony on 18th November 2016 which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane in London. The judges said “The Buttercross is a superb example of regenerating a derelict town centre eyesore into a vibrant neighbourhood.”

Congratulations to all involved in this exciting project.
