Triple shortlist for Revo Gold Awards

Waterman are delighted that three of our projects, John Lewis Cheltenham, intu Watford and intu Lakeside The Quay, have been shortlisted within the Re:purpose, Re:new and Re:lax categories of the Revo Gold Awards.

The Awards recognise the greatest examples of development, investment and asset management in the diverse retail property and placemaking sector across five categories: Re:fresh, Re:generat, Re:lax, Re:purpose and Re:new. Their Annual Dinner celebrates the people and businesses who have successfully transitioned from traditional retail units to the ground-breaking, mixed-use schemes available today.

Re:purpose – John Lewis Cheltenham
The new multi-million-pound flagship department store for John Lewis & Partners opened in October 2018, offering over 49,000 products from more than a thousand brands alongside their renowned personal and private shopping experiences. The 115,000 ft2 store replaces the former 1970s Beechwood Shopping Centre and includes a new triple-height glazed front façade, 335-space car park, Huffkins tea room as well as The Discovery Room, a dedicated space which celebrates local crafters and businesses through an ever-changing combination of workshops and events. Our structures team were appointed to provide both client and contractor novation services from feasibility through to delivery, alongside environmental and CDM co-ordinator roles. They also designed a below ground level drainage scheme around the retained below ground level foundations.

Re:new – intu Watford
The exciting £178m redevelopment and extension of intu Watford created a single 1.4m ft2 retail and leisure destination for the people of Watford and surrounding areas. The scheme, designed by Leslie Jones Architects, is formed of three separate blocks linked with a new feature roof and incorporates retail units and department stores, 11 restaurants and nine-screen cinema in addition to the original market hall, multi-storey car park and distinct YMCA tower. Our structures and infrastructure & environment teams were appointed by intu to develop a full set of ER’s for the scheme and carry out a client-side monitoring role, geo-environmental services, archaeology, flood risk and drainage design. Image courtesy of Leslie Jones Architects.

Re:lax – intu Lakeside The Quay
Intu Properties invested £72m to transform the leisure facility into a new 1.4m ft2 state-of-the-art shopping centre which opened over the summer, creating one of the country’s most popular retail and leisure destinations. In addition to the significant overhaul to the main shopping facilities, a host of new restaurants and shopping brands have opened alongside a new 24-lane Hollywood Bowl bowling alley, American-style diner and bar, Nickelodeon-themed family entertainment centre, Puttshack mini golf and Flip Out trampolining facilities. A further £9m has been invested into the centre’s new food court. We were appointed to provide structural engineering services for the project, generating the client’s brief and employer’s requirements for the shell works. Image courtesy of 3DReid architects.
