Victoria Gate wins ‘Best Shopping Centre’ at the MIPIM Awards

We are delighted that our project Victoria Gate has won ‘Best Shopping Centre’ at the MIPIM Awards 2017.

It honours the most outstanding and accomplished projects, completed or yet to be built, around the world, the very best of the real estate industry.

The category for ‘Best Shopping Centre’ rewards the new shopping centre, retail park or factory outlet which succeeds in encouraging and retaining traffic, whilst offering a unique shopper experience through new technologies, services and architectural features that aim to increase footfall and customer satisfaction.

The scheme, which is adjacent to Hammerson’s Victoria Quarter arcade and forms part of the new 53,400m2 Victoria Leeds shopping destination, is anchored by the flagship John Lewis store as well as 30 new retailers and restaurants making it the go to premium shopping, leisure and dining destination in the North.

Designed by architects, Acme, the development is a 21st century interpretation of the traditional Victorian retail arcades found in Leeds city centre.

WP_20170316_19_26_59_ProWaterman is proud to have provided multidiscipline services for the development and were also appointed by Sir Robert McAlpine to complete the multidisciplinary engineering services design as part of their design and build contract, with additional expertise provided on the acoustics, fire engineering and transportation.

The winners were announced on Thursday 16th March 2017 at the Grand Auditorium, Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
