Waterman Health & Safety Light up the River Thames

Waterman Health & Safety has been commissioned to be the CDM Co-ordinators on two high profile projects to provide permanent and temporary lighting to bridges spanning the River Thames for the London Corporation the City of London and the City of Westminster.

The first commission was to provide new lighting to Tower Bridge as part of the preparations for the London Olympics and the Queens Golden Jubilee, as well as other longer term events such as New Year’s Eve.

The façades of the towers and piers are being lit by three-colour LED projectors. This system offers the possibility of varying the colour of the light as well as its intensity. One of the lighting scenarios will include lighting the bridge Bronze or silver or gold to correspond with the Olympic medals that are won by Great Britain. LED lighting is also being provided to the bridge support stays.

The second commission is to add new permanent lighting to six bridges spanning the River Thames, namely London Bridge, the Millennium Footbridge, Southwark Bridge, Blackfriars Road Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and the Golden Jubilee Footbridge, as well as adding temporary lighting to some of these bridges. All of the bridges present different challenges as the potential hazards differ from bridge to bridge.
