Waterman Moylan’s Building Services Team Celebrates 3 Years

Waterman Moylan, a leading engineering and environmental consultancy in the built environment, provides specialist services to its clients in the property, infrastructure and environment markets across Ireland.

As part of multidiscipline engineering and environmental consultancy Waterman Group Plc, we have the advantage of the expertise and capacity of a 1,100-staff strong network of colleagues and specialists across the UK, Europe and Australia. The close collaboration between our teams gives our people the opportunity to work on some of the world’s most exciting projects, and allows them to grow their specialism by working with our leading experts within the Group across a wide variety of sectors.

Niall Coughlan, Associate Director at Waterman Moylan, joined the company in February 2014 to set up the Building Services Department. His involvement has seen the team grow more quickly than expected. The company’s existing relationships across its Civils and Structural teams have set the basis for Niall to extend Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) service offerings to these clients. This has been crucial for the growth of the team, and has resulted in the M&E team working with some of the most prominent developers in Ireland, including Kennedy Wilson, Gannon Homes, Castlethorn Construction and Cairn Homes.

Niall and his team are focused on providing a quality service to this initial client base and since the first appointment, the team now has more than 50 live projects on their books, including significant repeat business. This has facilitated the expansion of the team, which now includes Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Assistant Engineers and CAD Technicians to service the workload.

The M&E team is now 10 strong, with all team members playing a key role in the future growth of the section. This has presented his junior staff with a unique opportunity to gain exposure to all stages of their projects, from early stage concept design all the way through to project completion.

Margaret Dolan, Associate, has been a key member of the team since October 2014. She says; “Joining at such an early stage presented a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of this new venture. It has brought a broad range of responsibilities across all aspects of the M&E services that we offer and we have been able to build up individual relationships with the client representatives on all levels.”

While growth of the team to date has been heavily based on the residential sector, it has also secured several high-profile appointments in the leisure, education and retail sectors. The outlook is very good Niall said; “We are determined to continue to grow our team and are now focussing on maintaining strong relationships with our existing Residential Clients, whilst also expanding our presence in the Commercial and Retail property sector.”

As for the Dublin office, it has always had an encouraging and open door environment, Niall continues; “I was struck by the positive and friendly atmosphere within the office when I joined Waterman Moylan. Team leaders are very eager mentors, and make sure that graduates are learning and constantly improving their skills, which is an ethos that I am keen to foster within the M&E team as I believe this positive approach filters all the way through to our relationships with our Clients.”

The launch of the Building Services team has allowed the Dublin office to offer a multidisciplinary engineering service and a high degree of co-ordination on projects where there is a joint appointment.
