Biodiversity Net Gain Toolkit

Biodiversity Net Gain is an approach to development  that drives improvement in biodiversity. The aim is to leave it in a better state than developers found it.

It is seen by the government as a quantifiable and consistent process that can contribute to halting current biodiversity declines. The process is becoming more mainstream and has now been included within revisions to both National and Local Planning Policy documents.

Many developers recognise that demonstrating biodiversity net gain is beneficial in achieving planning consents. It is also looking increasingly likely that a net gain provision will become mandatory for planning applications in 2020.

Waterman has been involved in biodiversity net gain since 2012 and has a strong legacy of assisting developers in driving positive impacts and gaining planning consents (including within the public enquiry arena). Recently, we have designed an award-winning biodiversity toolkit that can be used by all developers to assist them through the net gain process, robustly and consistently identifying opportunities and tracking their progress.

If biodiversity net gain is a requirement for your scheme and you would like to know how our award-winning team can assist you, please contact either Lee Mantle or Sebastian Fitzgerald.
