Incorporating the lessons learnt from the only new-build Nightingale project, the guide was compiled by Waterman in collaboration with Sir Robert McAlpine, Garenne Construction Group, NBBJ and FES. Offering each parties’ insight on how the scheme achieved its rapid turn-around, the guide also discusses common challenges faced by all projects and how to overcome them to improve delivery time.
Across five key areas – the client’s role, commercial matters, the design and delivery team’s role, digitalization and modern methods of construction – the guide reflects on the Jersey General Hospital Nightingale Wing project and makes a series of recommendations designed to aid those tasked with delivering their own rapid delivery projects.
Joe Smith, Waterman Structures Director and author of The Blueprint for Project Speed, says: “Jersey General Hospital Nightingale Wing was a breakthrough advancement in the delivery of a healthcare facility. It gave us a glimpse into the future of construction by delivering a truly flexible facility that is highly sustainable due to its easy adaptability for future technological advances and changes of use. It also emphasised the importance of embracing the latest design and collaboration tools to enable the development of rapid ‘just-in-time’ design solutions and vastly improved site logistics. We can now reflect on what has been achieved and share this knowledge across our industry with this new guide, helping equip teams with the tools to successfully deliver lightning-fast projects throughout the UK. My thanks go to Sir Robert McAlpine, Garenne Construction Group and NBBJ for their invaluable input to the guide.”
