Peak District National Park

Our team is working with the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) to manage the condition and refurbishment of their civil infrastructure assets, prepare repairs schedules and assist in contractor procurement and works evaluation.

Through the scheme, our specialists undertook bat surveys and hibernation surveys of the major structures, including tunnels and viaducts, prior to any works commencing. This helped to identify the presence of, or potential for, bat roosting or bird nesting within the structures or in the surrounding areas.

Our ecologists worked with PDNPA’s ecology teams to identify areas which should be kept clear of works, including areas where badger sets were located and areas of rare flora and fauna, and these were not used for access, storage, or disturbed wherever possible.
We also headed discussions with Natural England using the Discretionary Advice Service (DAS) to ensure the surveys were undertaken accurately. This process also ensured our recommendations would be sufficient to allow the repair contracts for the trails to go ahead without any delays or interruptions from an ecology perspective, preventing any increases in programme or fees for the client where avoidable.

Our specialists also worked with PDNPA to prioritise repair works and split the works activities so that the refurbishment budget could be met whilst maximising the impact of the work undertaken.
