Team behind Jersey Nightingale Hospital stars of the show at Building Awards

1 November 2022

The prestigious annual awards are the industry’s longest-running recognition of excellence, celebrating exemplary design and construction across the industry. This year, the virtual ceremony took place on 3 November with the ‘Proud to Help’ category recognising the stars of the show for their outstanding efforts in supporting the industry through the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Jersey General Hospital Nightingale Wing, delivered by J3 Ltd as a joint venture between local company Garenne Group, Sir Robert McAlpine and FES, was completed just four weeks after being given the green light to begin construction.

The new £14.4 million temporary hospital is built on Millbrook Playing Field in Jersey, Channel Islands, and was specifically designed by NBBJ architects to provide 180-beds for Coronavirus patients with access to acute, enhanced and ongoing levels of medical care, including oxygen provision.

At 130 m by 40 m, the facility comprises six wards, each with 30-beds, as well as areas for patient admissions and discharge, staff changing and rest, X-ray, equipment storage, laundry and a morgue.
Helping to complete this lightning-fast project, Waterman’s team worked round the clock to deliver the structural, foul drainage and foundation designs, also providing detailed geotechnical surveys for the new facility.

Congratulations to everyone involved for their fantastic efforts and teamwork.
