Bolton College Engineering and Digital Centre opens its doors

14 February 2025

Bolton College has officially opened its new £5 million Engineering & Digital Centre, marking a significant advancement in educational facilities for students.

The state-of-the-art, three-storey extension has been designed to equip students with cutting-edge resources and dynamic learning spaces. Featuring ultra-modern IT suites, versatile classrooms, and hands-on workshop areas, the centre supports the college’s mission to deliver industry-relevant education.

The completion of the centre represents a significant investment in the future of education in Bolton, providing students with the tools and environment necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving fields of engineering and digital technologies.

Working alongside 10architects, Waterman’s team provided building services consultancy throughout the project, ensuring the centre meets the educational needs of students whilst also adhering to high standards of environmental sustainability. To deliver this, the team took a fabric-first approach to design, incorporating solar shading, triple-glazed windows, heat pump heating systems, photovoltaic array at roof level and Wraptight wall construction with enhanced insulation, all helping drive-down energy consumption in use.

Tim Davies, Director for Building Services commented: “I am delighted to see another one of Bolton College projects reach the finish line. The new facility provides a learning environment for students to gain hands on experience in their field. We look forward to completing more projects with Bolton College in the near future”.
