On Sunday 3 August, Martyn Park from our Leeds office laced up his running shoes to take part in the York 10K, raising awareness and funds for our Charity of the Year, the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT).

The York 10K is one of the most celebrated races in the region, drawing thousands of participants each year. The scenic course takes runners through the heart of the historic city, passing iconic landmarks such as Clifford’s Tower and York Minster.

Martyn’s run will help support CHECT, a charity dedicated to helping children and families affected by retinoblastoma – a rare form of childhood eye cancer. CHECT provides free, lifelong support to families, from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment, and well into adulthood. Their work focuses on three key areas:

• Supporting families and individuals with information and guidance
• Funding research into the prevention and treatment of retinoblastoma
• Raising awareness among healthcare professionals and the public

Importantly, CHECT receives no government funding, relying entirely on donations to carry out their vital work.

I completed the 10K in one hour and three minutes, which I was really happy with—especially as I’m just getting back into running after eight years of relative inactivity. A big thank you to everyone who made donations in support of this incredible cause.

We’re proud to have supported Martyn in this challenge. Every step he took helped make a difference for children and families facing this rare and life-changing diagnosis.
