The hospital was previously known as Skye, Localsh & South West Ross Community Hospital until the local community had a vote to choose the new official name for the development.
The new Broadford Hospital, built by Balfour Beatty, offers a range of services including a midwife-led community maternity unit, an accident and emergency unit, a dental surgery, an X-ray/ultrasound unit and an infusion site. Situated in a stunning location on the shore of Broadford Bay, visitors will benefit from extraordinary views over the Scottish countryside.
Working in partnership with architects Oberlanders and Rural Design, Waterman provided civil and structural engineering services, acoustics, geotechnical engineering, transportation and environmental services.
In a recent statement, Peter Ramsay, Project Director for hub North Scotland, said: “The Broadford Hospital is a fantastic health facility which will bring huge benefits for the communities of Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross. We faced a major challenge in progressing construction during the Covid pandemic but the support of all the partners and the local community ensured we have delivered a hospital that everyone can be proud of.”
Tracy Ligema, NHS Highland’s Project Director for the Broadford Hospital, said in a recent statement: “This is a significant milestone in the history of Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross. There has been a considerable amount of work involved in this process, and I want to thank everyone who has contributed over the years. The new hospital will serve the population of Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross for many years to come and highlights the health board’s commitment to developing remote and rural health and social care services.”
