Planning approved for Brueacre Village on former Inverkip Power Station site
Waterman is delighted that the Brueacre Village regeneration scheme has obtained Planning Permission in Principle (‘PPP’) from Inverclyde Council. The substantial redevelopment will transform the former Inverkip power station site, creating 650 new homes, retail space and several community facilities.
Acting on behalf of ScottishPower, the scheme, developed by consultants Turley, will create a new community, giving a new lease of life to the site which has been vacant since the former power station was dismantled in 2014. The masterplan that accompanied the PPP application envisages a variety of housing types, offering options from two to five bedrooms.
The 100-acre site will also include extensive open spaces, including a public park and foot and cycle paths, which will create a place that promotes community, inclusivity and wellbeing for residents. Along the full length of the Firth of Clyde boundary, a linear coastal park will be created to provide further space for active recreational activities.
Commenting on the plans for the site at Committee, local councillor and Planning Committee Chairman, Councillor David Wilson, said: “I think I’ve been sitting in this chair for about 15 years now and this is probably the most exciting application that’s come in front of me in all that time. I think it’s really quite imaginative what has been done with a very old and really very worn-out industrial site.”
To support the new urban village, the planned programme of works incorporates upgrades to the existing road network, including a new roundabout on the A78 which will form the main access route to the site. A re-worked junction at the Inverkip North/Kip Marina is also included in the plans.
Waterman provided a range of services in support of the scheme, including geo-environmental, drainage strategy and flood risk assessment which included detailed flood modelling and masterplanning input.
