Waterman is delighted that Joules’ new corporate HQ was announced as the winner of the Corporate Workplace Award at the BCO Regional Event for the Midlands and Central England.

British Council for Offices (BCO) prestigious awards are among the most coveted within the commercial property sector for developers and occupiers, demonstrating how the best designed office spaces support staff wellbeing, increase efficiency and serve businesses.

Joules new 60,000 sq ft UK headquarters in Market Harborough brings together the brand’s head office teams from five separate offices under one roof for the first time. The facility consists of a series of new interconnecting ‘brand structures’ each with its own character, which have been specifically designed to enable the company’s move to a more flexible way of working.

The space revolves around a central atrium with a structural tree at its heart, which the judges commented created a strong sense of place that respects the natural surroundings of the site. Office and studio spaces are light and open plan, with specialist collaboration rooms, whilst the wellbeing of staff is promoted through exercise and nourishment initiatives and ‘sit-stand’ workstations.

Setting a benchmark for sustainability, the EPC A energy-saving envelope strategy incorporates high performance insulation and glazing, optimal window sizing, sun-shading and airtightness. The judges were impressed by how the designers had understood, embraced and delivered a building which directly responded to the Joules brand essence, culture and workplace strategy.

Waterman’s building services experts provided mechanical and electrical designs for the inspirational workspace. The reduction of operational energy was a driving factor in the design brief from the outset and the development uses the latest air source heat pump-driven high-efficiency heating and cooling technology, together with highly-efficient, intelligently-controlled lighting throughout to further cut CO2 emissions.
