Two Waterman projects shortlisted at Planning Awards

Waterman is delighted that two of our projects, Royal Arsenal West Quay and Meridian Water, have been shortlisted for the 2022 Planning Awards.

Across 25 individual categories, the prestigious awards recognise excellence in planning and placemaking, rewarding outstanding professional planning work and excellence in planning-related activities across our industry.

Meridian Water – Award for Promoting Economic Growth

Waterman is providing a suite of design and specialist services to support the Meridian Water strategic infrastructure works which will facilitate the London Borough of Enfield’s £6bn regeneration. The ambitious 25-year scheme will see a 210-acre area of north London completely reimagined to provide 10,000 new homes, of which 40% will be affordable housing, alongside a huge range of new commercial units, public spaces and community facilities, creating 6,000 new jobs.

Analysis carried out by the Local Government Association indicates that, within Enfield, Lower Edmonton is one of the most economically deprived in the Borough. Meridian Water aims to bring economic growth to Edmonton with local people placed at the centre of regeneration. This is reflected through the Council’s approach to employment-led meanwhile uses, skills academies and even the launch of a ‘Community Chest’ which will support local projects to improve neighbourhoods with maximum grants of up to £60,000.

West Quay Royal Arsenal Riverside – Award for Design Excellence

With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, the Royal Arsenal Riverside has been given a new lease of life as one of the biggest regeneration projects in Europe. Offering over 5,000 converted and new build residential units in addition to commercial, retail and leisure amenities, the scheme is transforming the south London site.

The masterplan scheme has been underway for 15 years with nearly 3,000 units already reaching practical completion. The holistic landscape overhaul includes over 1 km of river walks, refurbished historic buildings, event spaces, formal gardens and a new four-acre linear ‘Maribor Park’ which creates a green link from Woolwich town centre to the river through the development.

Following the Allies and Morrison masterplan, our structural engineering team supported the detailed planning designers Simon Bowden architects and the delivery architects, Bond Bryan.
