Footscray Hospital

Published 31st August 2022

The new Footscray Hospital is estimated to cost in the order of $1.5 billion. As the largest current health infrastructure project in the State, the building will include over 500 inpatient beds, an emergency department, specialist facilities, and clinical support spaces in addition to teaching, training, and research spaces.

Located near Melbourne’s booming western suburbs, the Billard Leece & Cox Architecture-designed scheme will see the new hospital able to treat almost 15,000 additional patients each year and nearly 20,000 additional by their emergency department.

The Footscray Hospital is being delivered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority, in partnership with Western Health and Victoria University. It is expected to open in 2025.

Waterman has been appointed as the technical advisor to the State for all engineering services, with the project being procured via a PPP model. Our role is to prepare the technical brief, assess the bids, review the design and oversea the construction phase services on behalf of the State Government and Western Health.
