Waterman was appointed for this four-year framework to provide principal and general inspection services for Manchester City Council (MCC), covering over 400 structures.
The structures range from retaining walls of masonry brick and stone construction, to bridges and multi-span viaducts, including the Mancunian Way Bridge which is a 34-span, post-tensioned concrete viaduct forming the south section of the Manchester ring road.
The structures are located in a variety of challenging locations and our experts have successfully planed and arranged access for specialist confined space and dive teams. We are liaising with Canal & River Trust and Environment Agency for the necessary permissions and are arranging traffic management and road closures where required. We are also working with other third parties, including Network Rail and the Manchester Metrolink to allow inspection of the structures.
As part of the inspections, we are updating the structural information on PONTIS Database, which is an online database for Asset Management. At the end of the four-year commission, our experts will have PONTIS up to date with accurate structural details, photographs, location plans, and the latest inspection reports and remedial recommendations, allowing MCC to efficiently plan their maintenance regimes and budget the required repair works for years to come.
