The University of Strathclyde’s former Student Union building in Glasgow will be transformed into a state-of-the-art teaching and collaborative learning hub thanks to the contributions of alumnus donor, founder of private equity firm Pasaca Capital Inc, Dr Charles Huang.
Named the Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CHATIC), the ten-storey, 5,535 sqm facility will support both start-ups and established businesses in the technology and innovation space which will aid economic growth for both Glasgow and Scotland, attracting both public and private sector investments in research and development. This project represents a significant milestone in the development of the Glasgow City Innovation District, reinforcing the district’s reputation as a global hub for cutting-edge technology and market-changing innovation.
Following our support for the feasibility stage of the project, our team were reappointed to deliver structural engineering input for the next phases of the scheme which is scheduled for completion in 2026. Working alongside HLM Architects, our structural engineering experts are developing sustainability focused design solutions which utilise the existing structural components, adapting and repurposing these to align with the client and architectural vision all whilst driving down embodied carbon. Our appointment also incorporates comprehensive assessments of the building’s integrity, safety and compliance.
