The new Abernethy 33kv Sub-Station will form part of the grid connection for a new energy from waste scheme.

Our team is providing civils, structural, geotechnical and flood engineering design services, including supporting SSEN with progressing the scheme through planning.

Works have included scoping surveys including a topographical survey and ground investigation works, flood risk assessment and flood modelling, design of permanent and temporary site access routes including swept path analysis, levels design and cut and fill analysis, drainage strategy and drainage design, and design of steelworks and foundations for a new building.

The scheme has been designed to minimise imported materials by setting the platform level to achieve a cut and fill balance. This has been aided by adopting a novel design for the new building, which sits on stilts.

The works will involve passing new electrical circuits below a watercourse. As a result, the team is working closely with the Local Planning Authority and SEPA to develop an environmentally sustainable solution which promotes biodiversity, whilst improving conveyance and reducing flood risk.
