Waterman strengthens Sustainability team with key hire

6 February 2025

Reflecting continued growth in our sustainability project portfolio, Waterman has strengthened our national team with the addition of industry leader, James Barker, to support the delivery and expansion of our UK-wide Net Zero Sustainability services.

Joining us from Hydrock, carbon expert James Barker will shape the delivery of our sustainability services in the north from his base in our Leeds office. With over 10 years’ experience in the built environment industry, James brings particular expertise in whole life carbon assessments, building certifications, energy modelling, and overheating solutions. Specialising in helping clients and developments achieve their sustainability goals, his wide-ranging portfolio includes significant projects across the residential, commercial offices, industrial and hotel sectors. Notable highlights include James working with Travelodge to successfully align property acquisitions with their ESG goals, in addition to supporting schemes such as the Yorkshire Post redevelopment and Leonardo Buildings in Leeds, along with over two million sq ft of industrial warehouse units in Yorkshire.

Commenting on the appointment, Waterman’s Director for Sustainability, Dr Ankit Singh, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome James as Head of Sustainability for the north. He joins us at an exciting time as our Sustainability Services team continue to see UK-wide growth across the property and infrastructure markets. His appointment will ensure we continue to provide our clients with leading-edge design and consultancy services across the whole asset lifecycle, and I’m sure James will prove to be invaluable member of our team for many years to come.”
