Following a fire in October 2023 that ultimately destroyed the existing parking facility, London Luton Airport were eager to construct a new replacement multi-storey car park to provide the required parking spaces needed at the airport.
The new facility has a number of enhancements over the original to provide additional protection to the car park structure over its lifetime, including sprinkler provision throughout, should a similar issue occur in future.
The work was undertaken within an extremely constrained site bounded on all four sides by an adjacent car park, Luton Airport DART station, aircraft stands and taxiways, all of which are operational 24/7, with minimal impact to the airport’s operations.
Our team provided building services and vertical transportation services direct to London Luton Airport as their Design Guardian.
We undertook peer reviews of the completed design information and ensured the contractor’s proposals met the client brief. We were ultimately acting as the airport’s technical eyes and ears during the construction phase, and our specialists helped to ensure the completed car park fully met the client’s requirements and adhered to the standards and requirements set at the start.
