Victoria Gate Hotel

Published 25th August 2022

Located next to Leeds’ premium Victoria Gate retail and leisure destination, the new hotel will transform a temporary car park to deliver a stunning new hotel.

Granted planning permission in 2020, the scheme has been brought forward as part of Hammerson’s City Quarters concept which will see the group move beyond pure retail to deliver vibrant mixed-use neighbourhoods surrounding its existing flagship destinations. The 205-bed hotel will offer guests an on-site gym and conferencing facilities, with a new contemporry bar and restaurant on the ground floor. Externally, ACME’s striking architectural design features a unique façade which draws inspiration from the city’s textile industry heritage.

Waterman’s multidisciplinary support for the scheme includes structures, highways and drainage designs, with our team also undertaking the EIA screening to accompany the planning application. In addition, we delivered a range of specialist assessments, including transport, air quality, noise, land contamination, built heritage, ecology and flood risk.

Our structures team addressed a series of complex ground obstructions, including the Victorian ‘Lady Beck’ culvert running through the site, leading to an innovative foundation solution. Both the structural and façade designs were developed to create a visual pattern related to the neighbouring buildings of Victoria Gate.
